ഓഡിയോ ക്ലിപ്പുകളിലെ പ്രധാന ശബ്ദം റഷീദിന്റേതാണെന്ന് ദേശീയ അന്വേഷണ ഏജൻസി (എൻഐഎ) വൃത്തങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നു. 30 വയസ്സുള്ള എഞ്ചിനീയറായ റഷീദ്, 2016 ൽ രാജ്യം വിടുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ് കേരളത്തിലെ കാസർഗോഡിൽ ഒരു സ്വകാര്യ മേഖലയിലെ ജോലി ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു. കഴിഞ്ഞ വർഷം മുതൽ കേരളം വിട്ട് ഐഎസിൽ ചേർന്ന 21 പേരെ പ്രബോധനം ചെയ്യാൻ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ച വ്യക്തിയാണിതെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. റഷീദ് അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാനിൽ ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.

മറ്റൊന്നിൽ, "സമാധാനപരമായ പ്രാർത്ഥനകളെക്കുറിച്ചല്ല, ജിഹാദാണ് വേണ്ടത്... നിങ്ങൾ ജിഹാദികളല്ലെങ്കിൽ, നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ഇസ്ലാം വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കാൻ കഴിയില്ല; വാൾ എടുക്കുക... 3 അല്ലെങ്കിൽ 4 വയസ്സുള്ള ചെറിയ കുട്ടികൾ പോലും അവരുടെ കളിത്തോക്കുകൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു."
കഴിഞ്ഞ വർഷം മുതൽ ഗർഭിണികളും കുട്ടികളും ഉൾപ്പെടെ 21 പേർ ഐഎസിൽ ചേരാൻ കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്ന് രാജ്യം വിട്ടതായി എൻഐഎ പറയുന്നു. യുഎസ് ഡ്രോൺ ആക്രമണങ്ങളിൽ രണ്ട് പുരുഷന്മാർ മരിച്ചതായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു, ഓഡിയോ സന്ദേശങ്ങളിലൊന്ന് ഇത് സ്ഥിരീകരിക്കുന്നു.
രാജ്യത്ത് ഭീകരാക്രമണങ്ങൾ ആസൂത്രണം ചെയ്തതായി ആരോപിച്ച് കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ആറ് പേരെ ഒക്ടോബറിൽ എൻഐഎ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തതിനെ തുടർന്നാണ് റഷീദിനായുള്ള തിരച്ചിൽ ആരംഭിച്ചത്.

മുജാഹിദ് ഔദ്യോഗിക വിഭാഗത്തിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലുള്ള കോഴിക്കോട്ടെ പീസ് സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെ അഡിമിനിസ്‍ട്രേറ്റര്‍ ആയിരുന്നു റാഷിദ്. ഇപ്പോള്‍ റാഷീദിനൊപ്പം ഐ.എസിലേക്ക് ചേക്കേറിയതായി സംശയിക്കുന്ന ചിലര്‍ക്ക് നേരത്തെ ഇയാള്‍ ഈ ഗ്രൂപ്പില്‍ ജോലി നല്‍കിയിരുന്നു. മുജാഹിദ് നേതാവ് എം.എം അക്ബറിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലാണ് സ്കൂള്‍. വിദേശത്തായതിനാല്‍ എം.എം അക്ബറിന്റെ പ്രതികരണം ലഭ്യമായിട്ടില്ല. എന്നാല്‍ റാഷിദിനെ അറിയില്ലെന്ന് കെ.എന്‍.എം സംസ്ഥാന പ്രസിഡണ്ട് അബ്ദൂല്ലക്കോയ മദനി ഏഷ്യാനെറ്റ് ന്യൂസിനോട് പറഞ്ഞു.
പീസ് സ്കൂളുകള്‍ എം.എം അക്ബര്‍ സ്വകാര്യമായി നടത്തുന്നതാണെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം വ്യക്തമാക്കി. അന്തര്‍ ദേശീയ തലത്തിലുള്ള വഹാബി പ്രസ്ഥാനമാണ് ഐ.എസ്. കേരളത്തിലെ മുജാഹിദുകളും ആശയപരമായി വഹാബികളാണ്. ഈ ആശയം പങ്കിടുന്നത് കൊണ്ടാണോ ഇവര്‍ ഐ.എസിലേക്ക് ചേക്കേറിയതെന്ന് വ്യക്തമല്ല. ഏറെ നാളായി കേരളത്തിലെ മുജാഹിദുകള്‍ ഐ.എസിനെതിരെ പ്രചാരണങ്ങള്‍ നടത്തി വരുന്നുണ്ട്.

The Taliban are thought to be one of the wealthiest insurgent groups in the world, and after two decades of fighting US and partner forces, the militants now control Afghanistan.
So how do the Taliban support themselves?
How wealthy are the Taliban?
The Taliban ruled Afghanistan from 1996 until late 2001, when they were overthrown by US forces.
Despite the 20-year conflict that followed and the deaths of tens of thousands of Taliban fighters, the group's territorial control and military strength has increased in recent years.
By mid-2021 they had an estimated 70,000-100,000 fighters, up from around 30,000 a decade ago, according to the US.
Maintaining this level of insurgency has required a great deal of funding from sources both inside and outside of Afghanistan.
The group's annual income from 2011 onwards has been estimated at around $400m (£290m) by the United Nations (UN).
But by the end of 2018 this may have increased significantly, to as much as $1.5bn a year, according to BBC investigations.
Where do the Taliban get their money?
BBC interviews carried out inside Afghanistan and abroad indicate the group are running a sophisticated financial network and taxation system.
They have developed a number of income sources. We've looked into some of the main ones.
1. Foreign donations
Several Afghan and US officials have long accused certain countries - including Pakistan, Iran and Russia - of giving financial aid to the Taliban. This is a practice they frequently deny.
However, private citizens from Pakistan and several Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar are considered to be the largest individual contributors.
Although impossible to measure exactly, these sources of funding are thought to provide a significant proportion of the Taliban's revenue. According to experts it could be as much as $500m a year.
These links are long-standing. A classified US intelligence report estimated that in 2008 the Taliban received $106m from foreign sources, in particular from the Gulf states.
2. Drug trade
The Taliban have long been thought to run a taxation system to cover their insurgent operations, including on the illegal drug trade.
Afghanistan is the world's largest producer of opium, which can be refined to make heroin.
With an estimated annual export value of $1.5-$3bn, opium is big business, supplying the overwhelming majority of heroin worldwide.

A 10% cultivation tax is collected from opium farmers, according to Afghan government officials.
Taxes are also reportedly collected from the laboratories converting opium into heroin, as well as the traders who smuggle the illicit drugs.
Estimates of the Taliban's annual earnings from the illicit drug economy range from $100m-$400m.
The drug trade accounts for up to 60% of the Taliban's annual revenue, said US commander General John Nicholson in the 2018 Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction (Sigar) report.
But some experts say this figure is an overestimation.
The Taliban often deny their involvement in the drug industry, and take pride in having banned opium poppy cultivation for a period while in power in 2000.
3. Expanding areas of control
The Taliban's financial network extends well beyond taxing just the opium business.
In an open letter in 2018, the Taliban warned Afghan traders to pay their taxes on various goods - including fuel and construction material - when travelling through areas they controlled.
After ousting the Afghan government, the Taliban now controls all the major trade routes in the country, as well as border crossings - creating more potential sources of revenue from imports and exports.
Over the past two decades, a significant amount of Western money has also unintentionally ended up in Taliban pockets.
Firstly, the Taliban have taxed development and infrastructure projects - including roads, schools, and clinics - mostly funded by the West.
Secondly, the Taliban are thought to have made tens of millions of dollars annually from taxing truckers supplying international forces stationed in various parts of the country.
They are also thought to have made a significant amount of money from services provided by the Afghan government.
The head of Afghanistan's Electricity Company told the BBC in 2018 that the Taliban were earning more than $2m a year by billing electricity consumers in different parts of the country.
And there is also income generated directly from conflict. Each time the Taliban captures a military post or an urban centre, they empty treasuries and seizes scores of weapons, as well as cars and armoured vehicles.
4. Mines and minerals
Afghanistan is rich in minerals and precious stones, much of it under-exploited as a result of the years of conflict. The mining industry in Afghanistan is worth an estimated $1bn annually, according to Afghan government officials.
Most of the extraction is small scale and much of it is done illegally.

The Taliban have taken control of mining sites and extorted money from ongoing legal and illegal mining operations.
In its 2014 annual report, the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team said the Taliban received more than $10m a year from 25 to 30 illegal mining operations in southern Helmand province.

Pakistani journalist Ahmed Rashid published an interview with an Afghan official where the latter asserted that: “Opium is permissible because it is consumed by Kafirs (unbelievers) in the West and not by Muslims or Afghans”.

Balancing an AK-47 assault rifle slung around his left shoulder and with a large stick in his right hand, Abdul hits the heads of poppies as hard as he can. The stalks fly in the air, as does the sap from the poppy bulb, releasing the distinctive, pungent smell of opium in its most raw form.
Within a matter of minutes, Abdul and a dozen other men raze the poppy crop which covered the small field. Then the armed men, all wearing a shalwar kameez (a traditional Afghan tunic with loose fitting trousers), most with long beards and some with kohl-lined eyes, pile into the back of a pickup truck and move on to the next farm.
The men belong to a Taliban anti-narcotics unit in the eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, and we've been given rare access to join them on one of their patrols to eradicate poppy farming. Less than two years ago the men were insurgent fighters, part of a war to seize control of the country. Now they've won and are on the ruling side, enforcing the orders of their leader.
In April 2022, Taliban supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada decreed that cultivation of the poppy - from which opium, the key ingredient for the drug heroin can be extracted - was strictly prohibited. Anyone violating the ban would have their field destroyed and be penalised according to Sharia law.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza has removed thousands of names from its death toll in its March casualty update without any notice, a new research by two separate reports claims.
Some 3,400 previously identified deaths from its August and October 2024 reports can no longer be found in the PDFs released by the ministry, which doesn’t differentiate between combatants and civilians.
At least 1,000 children are among those no longer on the list, according to two research reports, which corroborated each other's findings.
The data, showing ID numbers that have been removed from the ministry's most recent report, was made public on Monday by Salo Eisenberg, a researcher with the US-based NGO Honest Reporting.
"The lists were quite unreliable. We found rafts and rafts of mistakes," Andrew Fox, associate fellow at the UK-based think tank Henry Jackson Society, told Euronews.
The discrepancy has made researchers concerned about the possibility of numbers being intentionally inflated by Hamas, especially since the health ministry’s figures are widely reported in international media and seen as relevant by the likes of the UN, and triggering widespread social response and even political developments.
The concern is particularly exacerbated by the fact that the lists can be filled by anyone with a link to the document made available on Google Docs.
In turn, this means that Hamas could have gone through the list and deliberately added further names as casualties, affecting the total, but also the demographics of the victims.
"There were three reporting methodologies," said Fox, who published his analysis in December 2024. "There's actually having a physical body in a hospital. There's media sources, so the government media office essentially trawls social media to try and find reports of people who died and they add them to the list."
"And then the third methodology is an online Google form that anyone can just fill in. You could fill it in right now. And that gets added to the list."
The big issue that stems from these findings is the discrepancy between the age and gender of those killed, which can make a difference between pointing to indiscriminate killings and typical combatant casualties in urban warfare, researchers believe, which is a key talking point among the anti-Israeli critics.
At the same time, Gaza is also one of the most densely populated places on Earth where almost 50% of the population is under 18 — compared to 18% in the European Union — meaning a high number of civilian casualties remains plausible, especially among the youth.
This opens the door to the possibility that the militant group is tweaking the numbers to turn the narrative to one of civilian plight and tragedy targeting women and children, while obfuscating its losses — and its role in the conflict.
"If you were seeing indiscriminate killing, you would expect roughly 26% adult male deaths," Fox said. "In the 13 to 55 age group, which is Hamas' fighter range because we know they use child soldiers, it's 72% male in that age group."
"So all these things clearly point towards combatants being targeted rather than just indiscriminate killing."
The Hamas-run health ministry figures were considered accurate in previous conflicts in Gaza as independent international organisations corroborated them.
However, this is no longer the case ever since the start of the Israel-Hamas war sparked by the militant group’s 7 October attacks, killing some 1,200 civilians in Israel and taking hundreds hostage, as it became impossible to verify any claims about the situation on the ground due to a media blackout.
The health ministry has recently claimed that the number of deaths in the Strip has now surpassed 50,000. The Israeli military says it has killed some 20,000 Hamas combatants, while also reporting around 3,000 dead and wounded among its soldiers.
At the same time, it is unclear whether the ministry's computer system outage in November had any impact on the numbers it reported, which Fox says could also explain some of the errors. Other issues with the reports, however, point to questionable practices, he explained.
"I'd be very surprised if natural deaths weren't included on that list, because there's been no separate reporting of natural deaths whatsoever," he said.
"But by the same token, it is also very difficult. So on top of the stats padding, there will also be genuine mistakes on there."
"It's still a tragedy, no matter how many civilians have died," Fox pointed out. "But I think it's been remiss of the world's media to try and take these figures as gospel when plainly there are combatants dying."
